Fallout 76 is a fairly recent Bethesda Game Studios release. You play as a resident of a fallout vault who ventures out into the wasteland. This is an online multi-player Fallout game. Which sounds like an oxymoron. The whole premise of a Fallout game is for a lone-survivor to find their way through a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Yet, due to the lack of NPC's, awful main story, and horrendous bugs/glitches, Fallout 76 falls short of being an acceptable game.
Main Story: The newest Fallout game has an abysmal main story line. Bethesda Studios has made the INGENUOUS decision to not put any NPC's in the game. This means that there are no fun, interesting characters to befriend. No rival factions to fight. Not a single person to talk to except for the other players. Having no NPC's is a creative choice and is outside of the box for many games which is why I understand Bethesda's experiment. At least I would if the entire premise of a Fallout game wasn't the story. NPC's are a driving force of Fallout story lines. Therefore, to leave them out of Fallout 76 breaks down the entire story and turns the main story into a long list of "fetch quests" which is incredibly dull, leaves the player unfulfilled and wanting more. In other Fallout games, the player forms the path. The story is driven by the characters actions and their relationships with NPC's. The player usually is able to role play by carving a path for themselves. Yet this is not present in Fallout 76 at all! This isn't a Fallout game!
Experience: Bethesda is known for having incredibly glitch games that never seem to "just work" as Todd Howard put it. Fallout 76 runs on the Creation engine which is the successor to the Gamebryo engine. The Gamebryo engine is 21 years old, and the Creation engine is roughly 7 years old. These significantly limit the performance of the game on all platforms. Although, I will admit that Fallout 76 looks amazing. The game truly has moments in which I become totally encapsulated with its beauty. But the fact that this game is so massive and has incredible landscapes means that you will inevitably have a low frame rate. Low frame rates take the player right out of the immersion of the game as well as the experience. This in addition to numerous bugs and glitches totally ruins this game for me. There are lighting issues, character issues, and server connection bugs that are pushed to the forefront of the game experience.

Overall: If you have a group of friends to play Fallout 76 with, I would say maybe purchase the game. But if you are going into this alone, I recommend not picking it up. This game is not worth $59.99. The bugs, crappy performance, lack of NPC's and story make this a game to skip next time you are looking for an open world, "role playing" game.
